Adamawa state should double its efforts in the development of aquaculture sub sector of the economy keywords fish farming impact enterprises poverty reduction northern region adamawa state introduction disturbing facts recently seem to reveal a phenomenal rise in the prevalence and severity of poverty in the world. This paper deals with fishing communities and fishing as livelihood in adamawa state nigeria it identifies the vulnerability characteristics and activities of each stakeholder why fishers. Fish farming in nigeria has it antecedents in the traditional african reciprocal communal technical labour support skills transfer system of about 10000 years ago fish production from aquaculture accounted for about 96000 metric tons in year 2000 while only 20000 metric tons in 1994. The fish fauna of lake ribadu adamawa state nigeria was studied from june to august 2015 data were collected through frame and catches composition surveys the catch assessment was conducted at the landing site twice a week and fish were indentified using olaosebikan and raji 2013 and idodo umeh 2003
